What ever happened to Douglas Walsh?
by St George of England indoes anyone know what happened to douglas walsh when the society lost the case?
all the references to the case concentrate on freddie franz and his inabilty to translate a single verse of the bible into hebrew and to grant suiter who let the cat out regarding disfellowshiping and altered doctrine.. walsh, i understand was a pioneer and possibly the congregation servant.
did he go to prison?

Walsh, I understand was a pioneer and possibly the Congregation Servant. Did he go to prison? Is he still alive? Is he still a witness? He will be in his 70's or 80's now I susspect.

Charles Taze Russell: His Life and Times: The Man, the Millennium and the Message
by RR incharles taze russell: his life and times: the man, the millennium and the message by fredrick zydek is the latest biography on pastor russell, and i must say i am very impressed.
i have read other historiees on the pastor russell by zydek (all unpublished manuscripts) but this one is far better than the last one authored by charles redeker aq few years ago.
zydek is a catholic.. the author is neither a bible student or a jehovah's witness.

Barbara Anderson wrote an interesting article about CTR and how he wrote out of the Society's history the first president of the WTS, William H Conley. He was first President in 1881; Joseph Russell was VP and CTR was Sec/Tres. CTR re-registered the org in 1884 with himself as President and never even mentioned Conley's death in the WT.
This all came to light in the late 1980's when she was researching for the 'Proclaimers' book. Conley gets just a one line mention in that book and I have never seen him mentioned elsewhere in the Society's literature.

according to zachariah, the lord will cause a great earthquake to split the mount of olives, and when the jews first behold their lord, they will ask about the wounds in his hands.

With all due respect to friends in the US, I think if Jesus or anyone else came to live on this earth, Brooklyn would probably NOT be his/her first choice of venue. Maybe somewhere with a better climate, vista etc etc.........
As regards Armageddon being just around the corner, they told us that in the 1950's and to my forebears in the years prior to that. Then in the 1960's Armageddon wasn't just around the corner anymore, it was marching right down the street at us!
My parents never had life insurance, not needed as the end was so near, they would never die. I was never to go to school in this old system. I think about that as I pull out my bus pass and young ladies hold doors open for me! My education was unimportant when I did get to school as I would never have to work in the old system.
Fortunately, after I married, my wife encouraged me to go to University and this has saved us from financial ruin in old age. I would encourage any JW's at school to plan on Armageddon not coming in this millenium, and to plan accordingly.

Yes I went to a District Assembly in Leeds once, it must have been about 1962 or 63. It was held in the Tram sheds! The acoustics were horrendous, wonderful, you could hardly hear anything! I did meet a very nice sister though. She left home and the 'truth' just a couple of years later. Still think about her now and then.

Yes. From the most amazing chick at work. Why she fancied me I cannot imagine, maybe she had eyesight problems or something. Anyway I did turn down the offer and have spent the last 45 years regretting it!!!
Like Terry I was a virgin until I married at 23 (wife likewise, pioneer). What a waste!

Does Anyone Like the New Songbook?
by metatron ini'll try not to be 'knee-jerk' critical about this subject but do any witnesses like the new songbook?
ok, they got rid of some awful lyrics about molesting bees - and downsized references to the ever redundant jesus - but the music itself sounds like forced piano practice.
trying to sing these slow, pedantic tunes is awkward and painful.. i haven't seen any witness e-mails about this 'wonderful provision from jehovah' and his faithful hacks, so i wonder if the rank and file aren't enthused either.

When will we have Armageddon, according to the last new light?
by dgp ini'm just curious: has the watchtower said when we will have armageddon, or they are avoiding to give any date, or are they avoiding noticing that all the signs are there to suggest that there is a specific date we should look forward to?
